ABOUT
Koen Malliet was born and raised in Vilvoorde (Belgium).
As a child, he often made little comic books and wrote some stories for himself. Seeing that at the time his interest in science was greater than art, this became more and more a thing to do in his spare time as he pursued a career in social sciences, having graduated in high school with Humane Sciences and trying his luck with studying Criminology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). After a year of studying at university, it became clear to him he didn’t have the right mindset for doing scientific research, and wanted to do something with his interest in art. In 2018 he took the plunge and started studying Animation at LUCA School Of Arts Brussels, seeing that he liked drawing and inventing stories. He didn’t completely abandon his interest in social sciences though, as his films made throughout the years in LUCA explore psychological phenomena and the human nature. Combined with his ever growing love for stop-motion, he made AND I FORGOT and HUMBUG. Both films are surrealistic, dreamlike explorations of his psyche. In his free time, Koen makes digital art, paints, writes poetry and makes video art. |
